This is quite literally a map to my entire life.
.
I used to operate off of one giant to-do list, and it didn’t seem to be working very well. Not to mention, it was pretty stressful always knowing it was there and constantly feeling like I should be working on it.
.
People talk about how it’s nice to be a business owner, because you get to make your own schedule. For me, this has been an extremely difficult task to handle. How do I spend my time most efficiently? That question has been even paralyzing at times.
.
About a year ago I listened to the book “15 Secrets People Successful People Know About Time Management.” This is not usually the type of title I would usually gravitate towards, but this book has been one of the most helpful books I have ever read.
.
It talked about how it is not effective to just add things and work on to a to-do list. Have a calendar or schedule where you plan WHEN you will do things.
.
When I first started this book, I instantly made excuses about how when I’m in the store I can’t schedule my time, because I never know when customers will come in. I stopped reading the book, and the current system continued to not work very well.
.
I started to think about it a little more and figured out a way to cater it to myself. I just blocked off my time (when I would be at the store, events, workouts, etc), and would break up my to-do list into sections I wanted to accomplish at each time block.
.
Fast forward to today and I am mapping out every 15 minutes of my day including the time it takes me to drive anywhere...and get made fun of for it. Obviously they are just jealous of my scheduling skills though, because on a very real note I can stay on task almost every single moment of my day now.
.
Now it’s time to learn how to handle last minute schedule changes better...
