One of the biggest mistakes when putting our business plan together was assuming that just because we had what we felt like was a great business, that people would come shop with us.
.
It was a rude awakening when we opened our doors and just about no one came in.
.
We could have had the best business in the world, but if we didn’t tell anyone about it (market) we would have sold nothing.
.
On top of that, now that we had realized the importance of marketing, we had almost no money to spend on it.
.
It was a grind it out or fail kind of moment, and we decided to do just about every kind of free advertising we could.
.
And for those that don’t know, that means things that take a lot of time and effort for a very small return typically.
.
We passed out flyers, supported free events, went out to meet other influencers, and did COUNTLESS sample events. We once hit 32 sample events (~4 -8 hours long each) in 31 days.
.
And as I’m writing this, it may seem like this is just what we had to do when starting out, but we were still doing this not even a year ago. It wasn’t until 2018 that we were able to start spending even a significant amount of money on marketing.
.
For over 2 years of business, we worked our asses off just let people know that we even existed. To this day, getting out, meeting people, and building meaningful relationships is not only our favorite way of marketing, but our most effective.
