I took this photo the day we arrived in OKC 4 years ago. Chad, Kali, Vincent, Alyssa and myself, packed up all of our stuff and moved to a city where we knew roughly one other person, our commercial real estate agent and residential landlord (same person). @oklahomanick , we love you!
.
So, let me explain how we got here.
.
Imagine myself and two former business partners, Chad and Vincent, sitting in Chad’s pretty empty house in Springfield, at roughly 10pm at night, looking at a map of the entire U.S. At this point we knew we were going to open up a supplement store, and we could go pretty much anywhere, but could not stay in Springfield or really anywhere in Missouri. (Many of you probably know I grew up in Saint Louis).
.
We picked 3 cities with a WIDE range of demographics to research. Miami..., Denver, and Oklahoma City. At first we were excited about Denver and Miami. They were bigger, more well known, and very exciting. There would be a lot of competition, but also a lot of potential, and we were VERY ambitious. Honestly, we were not very excited about OKC, but we kept it on our list.
.
When we went back to our bankers, they became very excited about OKC. Where Denver and Miami were really big, cool, and exciting, they lacked some really key points and potential that we overlooked in OKC.
.
Oklahoma City had a very low cost of living, much less competition, and was growing like crazy. We found out later that roughly 2000 people move to OKC every month.
.
A few weeks later we made the trip down to look at retail locations and see what the town was all about. This was actually my very first time in OKC. I remember driving down the turnpike late at night and getting off at May and instantly falling in love with the area. We even stayed in the Staybridge hotel across the street from the store now.
.
Since then we have absolutely loved this City from top to bottom. It’s very nice and clean, there’s tons to do, and the people here are just so incredibly kind. Not only do I feel that OKC was the best choice for our business, but for us personally as well. Since that day, I have always been confident that we would be here to stay.
