In January we placed an order of our Define Sleep.
.
Our manufacturer was a little behind, but we were still on track to have them in time.
.
Last minute when we started to run low there was an issue with one of the ingredients. The ship date got pushed back and we were certain we would run out of stock.
.
This wasn’t necessarily anyone’s fault. We work to minimize problems with manufacturers as much as possible, but sometimes things like this just happen.
.
Define Sleep is probably our top selling products in the store, it is part of the Oxidate (our flagship product), and we had just re-launched our website and advertisements for define nutrition. This was going to hurt, and I did not personally take it well at first.
.
However, I’ve been through much worse situations and knew how to handle it. We were going to contact the manufacturer daily, and create a sign up sheet to hand deliver the product to customers that came in for it in the mean time.
.
I then felt a lot better, but something still didn’t feel right. @trace.thews and @alfonso_lopez were on shift and still pretty upset about it. Then it hit me, these guys haven’t been through the unbelievable manufacturing problems that we’ve dealt with before. (story is on my post on Nov. 29th) Compared to that, this was a walk in the park, but I did not even consider the emotions and overall moral of the team.
.
First, I’m am incredibly lucky to have people that care enough about this business to be that upset about problems like that. All the guys up here have put in a ton of work to promote the define sleep, show people how awesome of a product it is, and get it moving. Now, we weren’t going to be able to sell any, simply because we didn’t have any in stock.
.
Second, I learned that I no longer just need a solid plan to deal with problems, I also need to make sure the whole team is on board, and motivated to get past them.
.
So, we all talked, gave it the rest of the day, and hit the plan hard the following morning.
.
In the end, our manufacturer did everything they could to get it to us ASAP, we didn’t have any upset customers, and we were only out of stock for less than a week.
