@triadfsn had been open for just over a month. My original business partners and I were all up at the store. Our very first and very big shipment of @define_nutrition (our brand) was supposed to arrive at around 9pm, so we were just waiting.
.
We decided to give our manufacturer a call to find out where the truck was. This is when they informed us that the ingredients to make our products had actually not even arrived at their facility yet.
.
The products were already a month and a half late at this point, and now we were seriously worried that we might not ever get them.
.
We had spent the majority of our loan on opening the store, a huge chunk on the down payment for these products, and had just enough left to pay for the second half of them.
.
On top of this we were seeing little to no customers on a daily basis, and our expenses were through the roof.
.
After running the numbers we were only expected to last about another month maybe two.
.
Now this is without a doubt the worst situation we have ever been in as a company, but failure has never been an option.
.
Three days later we sat down on a conference call with a handful of seasoned business people to propose a potential plan. One that was brilliantly devised by my partner, Vincent Mays. It was a long shot though, because it was definitely not a good deal for them. Not to mention we were only in our early twenties and brand new to the business world.
.
They all but laughed in our face at first, but we were not about to let this put us out of business. Plus we did have certain legal rights.
.
They eventually agreed to produce only 250 (half of the minimum order) of each of our products, and have them to us by January 8th. We paid them no more money, and it saved enough to pay expenses for another 6 months.
.
We ended up not only in a better position than when we started, but this was actually a lot better position to be in than if everything would have gone right in the first place.
.
Ever since then, anytime we are faced with a tough situation, I tell this story. If we were able to handle this we can handle anything.
